A New Road To Travel

Well it’s official, The Lucky Ladybug Children’s Consignment Shop is now open. Yes, as many of you know I left my health-care marketing position in March and opened the shop just about 12 days ago. The job was very stressful and not the best environment for me. So Paul and I began earlier this year to think of something new and different that I could do. Let’s see, I love to shop for BARGAINS, I love to do laundry, I love to iron and most of all I love to meet and talk with new people. So, that is how we came up with the idea of a consignment shop, for kids only. We did much research, visited the few around our area, visited about 8 in Florida and decided we could do this. I came up with the name to tie into our adoption….Ladybugs=Luck. My nephew came up with my whimsical logo and here we are. Paul and I felt that since the adoption process has slowed down so much that this would be the ideal time to get the business open and up and running. Owning my store will give me so much more flexibility when we get Grace home. I will be able to bring her here for a few hours and then Paul can pick her up. And she will be the best dressed kid in the neighborhood! It will give Grace the opportunity to interact with other children that visit the shop.
We are off to a good start, we have been very well received in the area. We are featuring gently worn or new name brand only, sizes 0-6X. We have several consignors and of course need lots more! Items are coming in daily and going out daily. I have had nothing but positive comments on how clean the store is, how bright it is, they love the ladybug theme (I will post photos) and that everything is ironed so crisply. And I am loving my job, each day is truly a new one. I love meeting the Moms, the Grandmas and seeing the kids. I look forward to seeing the children grow over the years and watching new little ones being born.
So hopefully we have found a niche and will be around for along time, and down the road Grace can take over the shop. I must also say that I am so thankful for my wonderful and supportive husband. He is my biggest cheerleader (well not really a cheerleader but you get the meaning) he has supported me 100% and made sacrifices so that we could make this change for our family. I love you Paul!

Isn’t She a Beauty?

I was surfing the Adoption Blogs tonight and came across this beautiful Lladro figurine, it is called “Oriental Lantern”. Isn’t it beautiful? Maybe I will put it on my Christmas wish list. Well Mother’s Day is tomorrow and I wish all the Mom’s out there a very special day! Hopefully, next year at this time we will have our daughter Grace home! It seems like we have been waiting forever. Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birth Mother’s Day too!

Today is our 13th Month LID Anniversary. Is 13 the lucky number?

Today, May 7, 2007 is the 13th Month Anniversary of our paperwork being logged into China. Who would have ever guessed that we would still be waiting for our daughter. But we are! Paul and I had dinner with some friends this weekend and the gal just couldn’t understand why we wanted to wait and why we were so set on China. She was sharing stories of families who “went to Texas and came home with a baby”. Why don’t we do that? WELL……….it’s as simple as this, our daughter, Grace Elizabeth is in China. She may not even be born yet, but we know that is where we need to go. So, as painful and as difficult as this wait is, we will wait and wait, because in our hearts we know that God will choose our daughter, that one special child that is meant for our family in due time. And besides, maybe this will be lucky Number 13! Maybe this next month we will see the CCAA go back to referring 30 days worth of LID’s. We can only hope! Congratulations to all the new forever families who received their referrals last week!

And a special “WELCOME HOME” to our friends Kristin and Blaine and their new daughter Tessa!
